Everything You Need To Know Before Starting Invisalign Treatment

Hello and welcome back to our blog. We know it’s been a while! We like to use this space to discuss some of the top treatments we offer here at our state-of-the-art Milton Keynes dental practice, as well as sharing any news we think might benefit our lovely patients.

Today, we’re looking at our popular Invisalign treatment. If you’re considering these braces but haven’t yet started that straight teeth journey, then look no further – we’ll reveal all in today’s post.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a clear plastic brace that’s made for your smile. It’s extremely lightweight, comfortable and discreet. The braces can be removed with ease. Most patients need to wear a series of aligners, changed roughly every fortnight, to gently move their teeth into their desired positions. It’s generally considered a better alternative to fixed metal braces.

How long does treatment take?

It varies between patients, and we’ll guide you on this during your consultation. One of the best things about the treatment, though, is that you’ll see predictions of each stage and anticipated results, so you know what you’re paying for.

What are some pros and cons?

Let’s start with the cons, as we have an answer for each!

Length of wear – needing to wear your Invisalign at least 20 hours per day can feel like a grind. But, it’s the best way to keep treatment on track and is still less wear per day than fixed alternatives.
Cost – some find Invisalign expensive, however it’s often comparable to alternative braces.
Cleaning – cleaning your teeth and your aligners can seem like twice the work, however we’d argue it’s easier than trying to clean around fixed braces.

And now, a few pros that we haven’t yet touched on.

Oral health – closing gaps or addressing crowding can have benefits for your oral health, as it makes tooth surfaces easier to clean and can prevent food becoming trapped between the teeth.
Cleaning – rinsing on removal and a soak every couple of days is all it takes to keep on top of your Invisalign cleaning ritual.
Comfortable – no wires, brackets or elastics needed!
